Jess "Squirrel" Komaromy creates altered and functional wood fired ceramics. She is currently part of the core firing crew at East Creek Art Center in Willamina, Oregon. After beginning her journey in clay over twenty years ago at a small studio in Chicago, she was invited to her first woodfire in a rural part of Illinois and was hooked. Having a deep yearning to experience life outside of America, Jess combined her two passions and began seeking out potters and kilns around the world. Through the years traveling to fire kilns and meet potters abroad has become the rhythm and flow of her life leading her to New Zealand, Australia, England, Japan, and Norway. She will present an overview of her experiences, and hopes to inspire those who are curious about the possibilities of wood firing in other countries.
