The Will of the Kiln
Jurors: Hitomi Shibata, a Japanese Potter of Studio Touya in Seagrove, NC. and
Nozomu Shinohara, a wood-fire potter from Shigaraki, Japan.
Wood, as fuel, offers an astounding range of creative potential to the potter; spawning a broad range of firing techniques while bringing about meaningful human connection. This show highlights the varied array of today’s practicing wood fire potters from around the world. Open to pit fired works, soda/wood pieces, straight-up wood fired wares, clays of every kind; any and all wood-fired wares and sculptures welcomed.
Selected works (20) are featured as part of the New England Wood Firing Conference and shown at the
Buley Art Gallery at Southern Connecticut State University.
